Games of the Day

The Yankees try to even the series with the Blue Jays as Luis Severino takes on J.A. Happ. Severino leads the AL in Wins and ERA with a 13-2 record and a 1.98 ERA. It’s reminiscent of Ron Guidry‘s great 1978 season. At this point, Guidry was 13-0 with a 1.75 ERA. Happ appears to be a trade target for a number of teams, but his last three starts may have driven his value down a bit.

Edwin Jackson gave the Athletics a boost in his first two starts of the season, and now faces a tough challenge in the Indians and Corey Kluber. Jackson has not walked a batter in his first 12 2/3 innings, striking out 13. Jackson once walked eight batters in throwing a no hitter. Kluber leads the majors in wins since the start of the 2016 season, going 48-17. He is one of seven pitchers with at least 40 wins in that time, including J.A. Happ above.

The Rockies take on the Mariners with Kyle Freeland faces ace James Paxton. Freeland actually pitches worse on the road, 3-4 away this season with a 3.50 ERA. He sports a 2.89 ERA at Coors. The ERA is higher despite better walk and home run rates away. Paxton’s home run and walk rates are up quite a bit this season, but that is somewhat compensated for by a much higher K rate.

Enjoy!
