Fire the Coach

It seems the Reds, with the worst ERA in the majors, needed to do something. That something was firing their first year pitching coach, Mark Riggins:

He was the organization’s minor league pitching coordinator the past four seasons.

“Mark was a valuable member of this organization for several years. Before he accepted the job with our major league team, he contributed to the development of many of our successful young pitchers in the minor leagues. Unfortunately, the pitching on our big league staff has not improved over the course of the season as we had hoped, and it is time for a new voice,” Reds president of baseball operations Walt Jocketty said in a statement.

When you strip the team down, what do you expect? I wonder if the manager is next.
