Games of the Day

The Diamondbacks go for a sweep of the Rockies as Zack Godley takes on German Marquez. Godley pitched about 50 more innings than last season, but allowed just 12 home runs compared to 13 in 2016. He appears to reversed his percentage of cut and sinking fastballs, which likely helped. Marquez makes his fifth start against the Diamondbacks this season. He owns a 3.42 ERA against the NL West rival, allowing just three home runs in 23 2/3 innings.

The best pitching match-up of the day is also the last. Chris Sale tries to earn a split for Boston against the Yankees in their four-game series. He faces Luis Severino in a battle of aces. Sale has yet to beat the Yankees this season in four starts despite a 2.12 ERA. He struck out 44 and walked five in 29 2/3 innings, both outstanding numbers. The Red Sox scored 0, 1, 3, and 3 runs in those starts. Severino made two excellent starts against Boston, but then fell apart in his third. We will see which Severino shows up tonight. A win for the Yankees would put them 3 1/2 games back in the division, giving them a much better chance of catching Boston over the last four weeks of the season.

Enjoy!
