Weekly Look at Offense

The major leagues saw games average 9.30 runs per game in the sixth full week of the season, bring the 2018 average to 8.94 runs per game. That’s down a bit from 9.01 runs per game scored through the first six weeks of the 2017 season. The good news is that strikeouts came down a bit in week six, and the last three weeks have been lower than the first three weeks of 2018. Still, strikeouts remain one per game higher than at the same point in 2017, 17.4 in 2018, 16.4 in 2017. Home runs, other hits, and walks are very close to the 2017 numbers. That means hitter adjusted to the strikeouts, and are still finding holes in defenses.
