Games of the Day

The Angels visit the Yankees with Andrew Heaney taking on Luis Severino. Heaney is back to his 2015 form after suffering elbow problems that led to Tommy John surgery. His walk and home run rate is up a bit from that season, but he is making up for it by striking out more batters. Severino owns a .750 winning percentage and a 2.82 ERA since the start of the 2017 season. That winning percentage is just behind Corey Kluber and Max Scherzer, both of whom also start today.

Dallas Keuchel faces Kluber as the Astros continue their series with Cleveland. In an unusual split for Keuchel, he pitched better on the road this season. He owns a 2.81 ERA away versus 4.06 at home, with one more inning away. The difference comes from home runs allowed, six at home, three on the road. Kluber is undefeated in Cleveland this season, 4-0 in four starts with a 1.76 ERA.

Scherzer leads the Nationals against the Marlins and Jose Urena. They have nearly opposite record, Scherzer at 7-1, Urena at 0-7. This is the first time the Nationals meet the Marlins this season. The other three NL East teams are a combined 12-7 against Miami. The Nats are doing well despite the injuries and a bit of a tougher schedule.

The Mets continue their series in Milwaukee with Noah Syndergaard facing Junior Guerra. Syndergaard is doing everything right, with excellent K/BB/HR rates. He needs the high strikeout rate, however, as batters own a .340 BABIP against him. That number has been pretty steady over the last three seasons. Guerra walks a ton of batters, but opponents are just 4 for 25 against him with runners in scoring position.

Finally, Arizona and Oakland send Patrick Corbin and Sean Manaea to the mound. Corbin has not won a game this May despite a 3.22 ERA. The Diamondbacks scored 11 runs in the four starts. Manaea owns a 1.78 ERA at home, but is 2-2 there as the Athletics scored 13 runs in his four starts.

Enjoy!
