The Judge Records

Aaron Judge keeps setting records for fewest games to a round number of home runs:

The Yankees right fielder hit his 70th career home run, becoming the fastest MLB player to reach that feat, according to ESPN Stats & Info. He reached that mark in his 231st career game against the Angels on Saturday.

The previous record was held by longtime Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard, who had 70 homers in 233 games.

I am not that impressed. Like Howard, Judge came to the majors near the end of his pre-prime years. Judge is seasonal age 26, so he is already in the second year of his prime. Mike Trout, who is half a year older than Judge, but the same seasonal age, has 218 career home runs. Judge came to the majors as a fully matured player. Trout grew up in the majors, and it’s going to be tough for Judge to close the career gap. Trout is only four home runs away from inclusion in the top ten home run hitters through seasonal age 26. He has a reasonable chance of reaching the top five by the end of the season.
