Games of the Day

The Yankees and Nationals continue their series with CC Sabathia facing Max Scherzer. Scherzer is the work horse of this era. Since the start of the 2013 season, five plus years, Scherzer pitched 1151 innings, the most by 55 innings. Sabathia was once that work horse. From 2007 through 2011, he pitched 1199 innings to lead the majors. Today, Sabathia averages a little over five innings per start, and they are effective innings as he owns a 2.23 ERA.

In Boston, Trevor Cahill of the Athletics faces Chris Sale. Cahill made just four starts so far, but is pitching brilliantly. He struck out 31 batters in 24 innings with just six walks. Sale has struck out 78 in 58 innings with just 11 walks, so Fenway should be breezy tonight.

Finally, youngsters match-up as Walker Buehler of the Dodgers faces Caleb Smith of the Marlins. Buehler has yet to allow a home run in 22 innings this season, and only one of the 15 hits against him went for extra bases. Smith owns a 2.38 ERA in Miami, but a 5.29 ERA on the road. The big difference is walks, 2.8 per 9 IP at home, 6.4 BB per nine on the road.
