Games of the Day

Cole Hamels leads the Rangers against in-state rival Houston and Justin Verlander. Hamels walks and strikeout rates are good, but he allowed nine home runs so far in 45 2/3 innings. He allowed twice as many in 2017 in three times the innings. Hamels pitched well against the Astros in his stint with Texas, posting a 3.22 ERA over eight starts. Verlander is battling his teammate Gerrit Cole in the early Cy Young jockeying. Both are 4-1 with low ERAs, but Cole is striking out more batters.

The Brewers continue their series in Colorado as Brandon Woodruff faces Chad Bettis. Woodruff pitched mostly in relief this season after making eight starts in his first season last year. So far, he struck out 10 and walked just two in 9 1/3 innings. Bettis owns a 2.05 ERA after posting a 5.05 ERA last year. He made five of his seven starts on the road, where his ERA is 1.35. In two starts at home, his ERA stands at 4.22.

Finally, Max Scherzer faces Matt Koch as the Nationals continue their series in Arizona. Last season, Sherzer collected 68 more strikeouts than innings pitched. He’s already 29 K over his innings. Koch owns a 2.13 ERA. A big reason for that is his .103 BA allowed, 4 for 39, with runners in scoring position.

Enjoy!
