The Braves lead the Phillies by 1 1/2 games as the two teams start a three-game series in Philadelphia. Mike Foltynewicz faces Nick Pivetta. Foltynewicz averaged 8.1 strikeouts per nine innings through the end of the 2017 season. This year, he upped his rate significantly to 10.9 K per 9 IP. That helped him to a much lower ERA. Pivetta is in the middle of a rough may in which he allowed three home runs in 13 innings, although he did strike out 19.
First place teams battle in Milwaukee as the Diamondbacks visit the Brewers. Zack Greinke takes on Chase Anderson. Greinke is now seasonal age 34, but he’s not showing it much. His control is still great, with 58 strikeouts and just seven walks in 54 2/3 innings. Anderson owns a mean reverse platoon this season. Against the right-handed pitcher, lefites are hitting .193/.280/.349, while righties are hitting .253/.337/.544.
