The Goldschmidt Slump

Paul Goldschmidt is mired in a 12-game slump. Goldschmidt is not talking about it:

Goldschmidt knows his struggles have led to questions. He knows manager Torey Lovullo has been forced to answer them. For him to slump this bad for this long leads to concerns, and in a recent conversation, Goldschmidt gave his manager a half-serious way to respond.

“He said, ‘Just tell them that I suck,’” Lovullo told reporters after the Diamondbacks fell 3-1 to the Washington Nationals on Friday night, their third loss in as many days.

If you look at the teams faced in the last 12 games, all have great pitching staffs. He was hitting fine before that, and sometimes players just have a bad stretch. I’ll note that Bryce Harper went into a slump about the same time, when the Diamondbacks were in Washington. (At least Harper is hitting for power.) I wonder if there was some bug or allergen going around that the two sluggers caught? Neither offense has been on fire lately.
