An usual game at Citi Field as the Phillies and Mets starters both make their major league debut. Enyel De Los Santos visits Drew Gagnon. De Los Santos is just 22, and is 9-3 in his first year at AAA with 1.89 ERA. Through his minor league career he owns good strikout and walk numbers. Gagnon comes up at seasonal age 28, so he is hardly a prospect. In four seasons at AAA he is 5-17 with a 5.86 ERA. I think these two call ups sum up the difference between the seasons of the two teams.
The Athletics and Astros offer another good match-up, as Sean Manaea faces Justin Verlander. Both show outstanding control, Verlander ranking 6th and Manaea 8th in walks per nine IP.
Arizona travels north to Colorado, leading the fourth place Rockies by 3 1/2 games. Patrick Corbin battles Tyler Anderson. Corbin does a great job of keeping batters off base, with a .202 BA allowed and a .262 OBP allowed. Anderson found his groove lately, with a 2.18 ERA in his last six starts. He struck out 41 and walked 8 in 41 1/3 innings.
Enjoy!
