Games of the Day

The Pirates have won five in a row and seven of their last eight as they go for a sweep of the Brewers in Pittsburgh. The Brewers lost five in a row to fall out of first place in the NL Central, trailing the Cubs by 1 1/2 games. The division is separated by 12 1/2 games top to bottom, the least in the majors. Jhoulys Chacin takes on Joe Musgrove. Chacin is a trusty starter but not an innings eater. He took the hill 20 times this season, but averages just over five innings a start. It worked out for him with an 8-3 record. Musgrove trades hits for walks, giving up 50 hits in 45 1/3 innings despite 45 K. He walked just 12, however.

The Bay area concludes the pre-break season with Oakland sending Sean Manaea against San Francisco and Andrew Suarez. Manaea owns the best single season ERA of his career, 3.44. His high home run rate is balanced by his low walk rate. Suarez owns a 2.91 ERA at home, giving up fewer hits and fewer walks.

Enjoy!
