The Royals try to chase down the Indians as they open a series in Cleveland. Jason Vargas takes on Ryan Merritt. Vargas handled the Indians well this season, with three fine starts and one poor one. Overall, he posted a 2.13 against the Tribe this season. Merritt received a cup of coffee last season, and a few inning this year for a total of 19 2/3 innings. He only struck out nine batters, but he walks just one with no home runs.
The Astros travel to Anaheim to take on the Angels, Collin McHugh facing Parker Bridwell. McHugh continues to work his way back from an elbow injury, with 31 K in his first 33 2/3 innings. Bridwell has been the star of the Angels rotation with a 7-1 record and a 2.92 ERA.
Finally, Chase Anderson and the Brewers face a possible post-season foe in Kenta Maeda and the Dodgers. Anderson strikes out more batters and allowed fewer home runs on the road than at home, but his ERA is a run and a half higher at 3.60. Maeda is 14-6 with 3.20 ERA in his first two season playing at home.
