Weekly Look at Offense

Offense continued to roll in 2017, with 9.88 runs scored per game in week 20 of the season. That was the fourth highest scoring week of the season. Week 20 was also the fourth highest week of 2015, and the second highest of 2016, so the middle of August seems to be a good week to score runs. It makes a bit of sense, as the weather is still warm but starting to cool, and the humidity starts to break.

Overall, the 20 week year to year comparison shows 2017 leading 2016 9.34 runs per game to 8.98 runs per game, about 1/3 of a run per game more in 2017. There is little change in why that is happening; more home runs, walks, and strikeouts this season, fewer hits on balls in play. There’s been little to reverse that trend in season.
