Yasmany Tomas needs core muscle surgery and will miss the rest of the 2017 Diamondbacks season:
The injury is similar to a sports hernia, and D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said Tomas will have a 45-minute procedure done on Tuesday in Philadelphia. Tomas, who has been on the disabled list retroactive to June 3, saw a specialist when he had trouble trying to run the bases last week.
Tomas produced power with a high number of outs as the Arizona leftfielder. Daniel Descalso has been the best replacement, getting on base, but not producing much power. The team was 27-20, .574 when Tomas played, 40-37, .519 without him.
