Four Martinez Launch

J.D. Martinez had played a good game when I went to bed, then tied a record as he homered four times in the game against the Dodgers. He drove in six runs as the Diamondbacks win 13-0. The team has now won eleven games in a row and the Dodgers lead is down to 12 1/2 games.

This is the second time the record was tied this season, Scooter Gennett performing the feat on June 6th. The only other year with two ties was 2002, when Mark Whiten and Shawn Green accomplished the feat.

Going into the ninth, Martinez was due up fifth. After three batters safely reached, Martinez stepped to the plate with history only one swing away.
“Let’s go up there and keep doing what you’re doing,” he said he told himself.
Martinez capped his huge night by pulling a two-run homer to left field off Wilmer Font. The big hits helped Arizona rout the NL West-leading Dodgers 13-0 for its 11th straight win.
“You want the game to keep going,” he said.

No word if after the home run Dave Roberts yelled, “Willllmerrrrrr!” in bold face, 20pt Helvetica.

Martinez joined the Diamondbacks on July 19th, and in that time only Giancarlo Stanton has more home runs.
