Another 30-30

The Rockies beat the Diamondbacks 4-3 in an exciting game at Coors Field Tuesday night. The Diamondbacks scored two runs in the top of the eighth to take a 3-2 lead after German Marquez pitched six good innings for Colorado. Zack Greinke came out for the top of the eighth, having worked an efficient game. This would be the Rockies fourth time through the order against him, however. Greinke got the number nine hitter for the first out, then allowed two singles and a Nolan Arenado triple to blow the lead. Greinke finished with just 99 pitches thrown, but one could argue the starter should have been on a short leash and lifted after the Charlie Blackmon single.

Greinke walked none and struck out seven, but posted another +30/-30 Game Score. Clayton Kershaw threw one the day before. Pitchers rack up high positive Game Score points, but also a lot of negatives. Despite the good strikeout total, Greinke allowed nine hits. So the game line doesn’t look as good as the positive suggest it should.
