Max Scherzer faces Steven Matz as the Nationals continue their series with the Mets. Scherzer is just 4-4 against the Mets since joining the Nationals, despite a 2.24 ERA. He struck out 86 and walked just 11 in his nine Nationals starts against New York. Matz allowed just one run in seven innings in his return from bone spur surgery, but he only struck out two batters.
Out on the west coast, the Yankees take on the Athletics with Luis Severino battling Sean Manaea. Severino’s ERA on the road this year is over a run less than at home, thanks to giving up just three home runs away, half of what he allowed at Yankee Stadium. Manaea’s weakness is his walk numbers, 24 BB in 61 1/3 innings. He gives up so few hits, however, that the opposition earns just a .281 OBP against him.
