John Larue uses a graphical six-way comparison to identify which recently historical team current teams best match. I see a number of comparisons to the Braves of the early 1990s and the Athletics of the late 1990s. One comparison that should give an organization pause is the Pirates comparison to the 1996 Expos. The Expos of that era were not a bad team, but they were a team that never quite got to the finish line. The Pirates don’t want to be in that area of limbo where the team is good enough to be in contention, but not good enough to make the playoffs.
