Games of the Day

The Reds visit the Nationals with Luis Castillo making his MLB debut for Cincinnati against the Nationals Stephen Strasburg. Castillo posted great three-true outcome number throughout his minor league career, and really killed AA hitting. This is his first test above that level, however, and the Nationals do not strike out very much. Strasburg has trouble pitching at home this season. He allowed six home runs in 39 innings at Nationals Park versus three home runs in 51 2/3 innings on the road.

The Pirates move to St. Louis as Jameson Taillon battles Adam Wainwright. Taillon owns a 3.38 ERA, the same as his rookie 2016 season. He’s allowing more batters to reach base, but with less power. Wainwright continues to be a shell of his former self, owning a 5.75 ERA in 2017 after posting a 4.62 ERA in 2016. Age and injury finally caught up with him. He does pitch well at home, however, with a 2.88 ERA in seven starts. For some reason, he is just getting hit harder away.

The Rockies find themselves chasing the Dodgers as they visit Los Angeles. Kyle Freeland faces Alex Wood. Freeland is finding success despite doing poorly in all three-true outcomes. The defense behind him helps, as his BABIP is .291. The various FIPs put his expected ERA around 4.70. Wood is pitching lights out, with a 1.90 ERA and a 7-0 record. He’s a few starts away from qualifying for the ERA title.

Enjoy!
