Games of the Day

Enjoy your Sunday afternoon as the better pitching match-ups take place later in the day. The first pits Dallas Keuchel of the Astros against Andrew Cashner of the Rangers. Despite the Astros slump, and losing five in the row, they still own a 12-game lead over the Angels. LAnaheim won five in a row. Keuchel pitched poorly since returning from the disabled list, allowing 14 runs in 12 innings, walking eight and striking out seven. Keuchel averaged 2.1 BB per 9 IP before the injury. Cashner walks too many batters and strikes out too few. He limits home runs, however, which keeps his ERA low. He keeps balls in play against him on the ground.

The Luis Perdomo watch is on as the Padres starting pitcher goes for his fourth triple of the season. Kenta Maeda of the Dodgers stands in his way.

Jake Arrieta faces the wrath of Zack Godley as the Cubs play the Diamondbacks. Arrieta seems to be back to his old self since the All-Star break, 3-1 with a 2.20 ERA, and just seven walks in 32 2/3 innings. Godley pitched six shutout innings against the Cubs two starts ago, a game in which he beat Arrieta.

Finally, the Red Sox send Chris Sale against the Yankees and Jordan Montgomery in the rubber game of their series. Sale pitched great in his two starts against the Yankees this season, posting a 1.15 ERA in 15 2/3 innings, walking two and striking out 23. He received little support, however, as his record is 0-1 in those two games. The rookie Montgomery owns strong strikeout and walk numbers, but was hurt by allowing 16 home runs in 115 2/3 innings.

Enjoy!
