The Indians try to set an AL record with their 21st straight win as they host the Tigers. The game starts at noon EDT. Buck Farmer faces Mike Clevinger. Farmer’s 6.32 ERA may be the result of bad luck and a small sample size. He allowed six home runs in 31 1/3 innings, but FanGraphs puts his FIP at 4.91. His walk and strikeout rates are good. Clevinger walks a lot of batters, but does not give up the hits to move them along. He is 3-0 with a 0.50 ERA in three starts against the Tigers this season, allowing eight hits and eight walks in 18 innings.
There are few good matchups in meaningful games. The best is probably Mike Leake and the Mariners taking on Martin Perez and the Rangers. Leake helped an injury filled Seattle rotation, as he won his two starts since joining the team. He walked one and struck out 12 in 13 innings for a 2.77 ERA, after pitching somewhat poorly for the Cardinals. Perez won his last seven starts, posting a 3.15 ERA since August 9th. He allowed just three home runs and nine walks in 45 2/3 innings.
Enjoy!
