Aaron Judge just drew his 100th walk of the season. The record for rookies since 1900 belongs to Ted Willams, who drew 107. Yes, Williams played a shorter season, but Judge could easily eclipse that mark, longer season or no. Judge already broke the Yankees rookie record for home runs, held by Williams rival Joe DiMaggio. Breaking a Williams and DiMaggio record in the same year is pretty good.
I do want to point out that the big difference between Judge and the other rookies who put up big numbers (including Mark McGwire‘s home run record), is that Judge is an old rookie. At 25, Judge is a rookie that is already in his prime years. (All ages are seasonal ages.) DiMaggio was a 21-year-old rookie. Williams was 20 years old. McGwire was 23, and had a cup of coffee at age 22. Judge is simply a more physically mature player. Cody Bellinger, who is also hitting home runs at rare rate for a rookie, is just 21. I would guess that Bellinger is much more likely to make the Hall of Fame than Judge.
