Games of the Day

The Nationals go for a sweep of the Mets as Tanner Roark takes on Steven Matz. Roarks K per 9 rose every season since 2015, and so far in 2018 he’s striking out nine batter per nine innings. Matz, with a very high K rate, allowed just 10 hits in 14 1/3 innings, but four of those hits were home runs.

The Red Sox and the Angels send Rick Porcello and Tyler Skaggs against each other, both with ERAs under 2.00. Porcello walked just one batter and allowed no home runs in his first 19 2/3 innings as he goes for his fourth win. Skaggs also has not allowed a home run, but he has walked six batters.

Finally, Gerrit Cole and the Astros face Mike Leake and the Mariners. Cole is proving to be another ace, as he brings a 1.29 ERA into the game. Somehow he upped his K game, striking out 36 batters in his first 21 innings with the Astros. I expect that high a rate from a top-notch closer. He is using his sinker sparingly this season, making up for it with off-speed pitches. Leake owns a good career strikeout to walk ratio, but this season he walked nine and struck out just eight.

Enjoy!
