Games of the Day

The second place Angels fly into Houston to face the first place Astros. Tyler Skaggs faces Gerrit Cole. Skaggs pitched to mixed results against the Astros in his career. In general, it’s positive with a 3-2 record and a 3.26 ERA. He allowed them just two home runs 38 2/3 innings. Cole is off to a tremendous start, with 41 K and just 15 hits allowed in 28 innings. That’s good for a 0.96 ERA.

The Marlins and Don Mattingly head to Los Angeles as Jarlin Garcia (does not rhyme with Marlin) face Walker Buehler of the Dodgers. We can only hope that Ben Stein is at the game. Garcia is one of the few bright spots for the Marlins as he brings an 0.86 ERA into the game. He only gave up six hits in his first 21 innings, but he walked 11. Buehler makes his 2018 debut and his first MLB start after eight relief appearances in 2017. He posted a 3.04 career ERA in the minors with 12.4 K per 9 innings.

Finally, Gio Gonzalez leads the Nationals into San Francisco to face Chris Stratton. Gonzalez is showing that 2017 was not a fluke, as he comes into the game with a 2.49 ERA and one home run allowed in 21 2/3 innings. Stratton has yet to allow a home run this season in 24 1/3 innings.

Enjoy!
