Games of the Day

Sunday gets going with a good match up as Corey Kluber leads the Indians against the Orioles and Andrew Cashner. Kluber owns a 2.16 ERA since the start of 2017, over 0.6 runs better than AL runner up Chris Sale. Cashner’s three-true outcomes indicate that his ERA should be much higher than 3.00, but opponents are 0 for 18 against him with runners in scoring position.

The Mets send Zack Wheeler against the Braves and Mike Foltynewicz. Wheeler is keeping the ball over the plate, but not giving up a lot of hits. He walked four batters in 13 innings. Seven of the nine hits against him are singles. Foltynewicz upped his strikeout game this season with 26 Ks in 21 1/3 innings.

Trevor Williams and Nick Pivetta square off as the Pirates try to prevent a four-game Phillies sweep. Williams walked 10 and struck out 14 in 23 1/3 innings, but allowed just one home run and only one extra base hit with runners on base. Pivetta looks like the king of the three-true outcomes with 21 K, 2 BB and no home runs allowed in his first 21 2/3 innings of the season. He allowed 25 home runs last year.

Finally, new Padres ace Joey Lucchesi takes on Patrick Corbin and the Diamondbacks. Lucchesi in four starts limited opponents to a .221/.253/.338 slash line, as neither lefties or righties are hitting the LHP well. Corbin is blowing away batters with 37 K in 27 1/3 innings. That’s tied for eighth in the majors.

Enjoy!
