Better in Both Directions

The Astros try to extend their winning streak to 12 games Tuesday night. As you might expect when a team wins 11 in a row, they are greatly outhitting their opponents during the streak. Astros batters posted a .323/.389/.604 slash line. That might win a batter an MVP. Opponents are hitting just .244/.300/.403. Opponents are hitting like a defensive catcher or middle infielder.

Put the Astros and opponents in the position of having runners on base, and the gap widens. In that situation, the Astros during the streak hit .349/.424/.634. Opponents drop to .225/.291/.331. With a higher OBP with men on base, the Astros keep the Bugs Bunny conga line moving.

Their opponents waste their extra base hits on bases empty situations. They put men in scoring position, but they go their to die. The Astros drove in 66 runs in that situation versus just 27 for their opponents.
