Games of the Day

The best games on Sunday bookend the day. The first contest pits the Yankees against the Blue Jays with Luis Severino facing Marcus Stroman. Severino improved all three of his three-true outcomes so far this season, in particular upping his strikeout rate while lowering his walk rate. That lowered his ERA nearly three runs compared to last season. Stroman’s ERA is a run lower than last season, even though few of his other stats have changed. This year he allows a .241 BA with men in scoring position, last year .278.

The day ends with the Cubs going for a sweep of the Cardinals. Michael Wacha takes on Kyle Hendricks. By taking the first two games of the series, the Cubs moved 1/2 game ahead of the Cardinals into second place in the NL Central. Wacha looks to improve a 6.19 road ERA. Despite striking out 19 in 16 road innings, he allowed 21 hits. Power hurt Hendricks at home this season as nine of the 14 extra base hits against him came in Wrigley.

Enjoy!
