Moon Shot

The Astros continue to pound opponents, winning their tenth game in a row, 7-2 over the Rangers. Brad Peacock struck out nine and walked one batter in six innings of work Sunday afternoon. Astros starters during this win streak have struck out 72 and walked 15 in 54 2/3 innings. Note that they are not going very deep in these games, and it’s not making a difference. The offense scored 82 runs in the 10 games, and one game they only scored two runs, three pitchers combined for a shutout. Opponents scored just 36 runs. Even without Sunday’s stats included (check back Monday), six regulars are posting monster numbers. All six are hitting for average, getting on base at a high clip, and hitting for power. George Springer hit two home runs today and Carlos Correa added another, so the two have combined for 12 home runs during the streak.

It’s a superlative team. They lead the AL West by 12 1/2 games over the Angels, and the race for home field by seven games over the Yankees. This team is out to crush the competition and bring Houston not only their first World Series title, but to do it in such a way that they leave know doubt as to which team is the best in the majors. It may be a boring division race, but watching this super team plow through the competition is going to be fun.
