The Tigers showed some fight Thursday afternoon as they roared back from a 7-3 deficit after seven innings to beat the White Sox 9-7 in ten innings. They scored three runs with two out in the top of the ninth to tie the game, then won it with two more runs in the tenth. Jordan Zimmermann put the team in a hole, allowing six runs in 4 1/3 innings, but the pen was strong, allowing one run the rest of the way while walking four and striking out nine.
Niko Goodrum hit a two-run homer in the ninth to cut the lead to one. It was his Lou Gehrig moment as Miguel Cabrera went down with an injury early, and Goodrum went two for five with two runs and two RBI.
