The Red Sox and Yankees play the rubber game of their series as David Price faces Michael Pineda. Price appears to be back to normal after a long absence due to injury. In his first 12 innings, he stuck out 11 batters, walked only three, but did allow two home runs. All those numbers are consistent with his rates from last season. He did give up a single season high 30 home runs in 2016. Given that the Yankees are fourth in the majors in home runs hit, look for that line of attack working against Price.
Home runs cut both ways as Pineda allowed 13 dingers so far this season. That puts Pineda in the top 20 of highest HR/9 IP in the majors, but behind his teammate Masahiro Tanaka. Ten of Pineda’s 13 home runs came with the bases empty, as have seven of his nine doubles allowed. That limited the damage against him.
Enjoy!
