My college roommates and I got together for our annual ballgame, and this year we attended the Cardinals versus Reds at Great American Ballpark.
The ballpark is one of the best I attended. We could walk from our downtown hotel, and the crowd flowed easily in and out. As you approach the park, you get a real history of the Reds, with statues of their most famous players in action positions. I really liked the stretch with Joe Nuxall pitching to Frank Robinson with Ernie Lombardi catching. Sight lines were excellent, and a good crowd was on hand. The smoke and flame shooting river boat smoke stacks were a nice tough.
The game itself was really a three-true outcomes game. Both sides struck out nine times. The Reds drew four walks, the Cardinals drew seven, and two St. Louis players were hit by pitches. There were only nine hits in the game, two of the home runs, accounting for three of the five runs. One of the others was a triple off the top of the centerfield wall that missed being a home run by inches. The weather was perfect, their were plenty of Cardinals fans in attendance, and with good friends it was a very enjoyable night. I highly recommend a visit.
