Shohei Ohtani collected three hits Tuesday night, including his first MLB home run. He’s now 4 for 9 on the season with two runs and three RBI, striking out twice. He pitched well in his first start, too.
I approached this player with a great deal of skepticism. Baseball as a game tends to become more specialized, especially on the pitching side. The move from Japan to the US is not easy, and to try it as a two-way player should make the transition even rougher. His first three games, however, show that he is not overwhelmed. I still believe he will wind up on one side of the ball, but for now, I’m a tiny bit less skeptical than I was before. I hope Ohtani continues to prove me wrong.
The Angels crushed the Indians 13-2 as they hit five home runs in the game. The only hit by the Indians was a two-run homer by Jose Ramirez, who came into the game without a hit on the season.
