The Giants took Evan Longoria and Andrew McCutchen off the hands of teams that were retrenching, as the Giants want to win now. Those two additions are a combined 3 for 43 through the first six games of the season. Two of the three hits have gone for extra bases. They also struck out 12 times. It’s early and a very small sample size, but when a team picks up two players of that stature, it would be nice of them to make a good first impression. If this keeps up, maybe fans of the Rays and Pirates will be a little more forgiving of the deals.
