Matt Carpenter hit his 32nd home run of the season Friday night to remain atop the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings. Mike Trout, now on the disabled list, remains in second place, but his position should erode as he doesn’t play. Mookie Betts moves into third place as he goes 3 for 4 with two walks and two doubles in the Red Sox 19-12 win over the Orioles. In the same game, J.D. Martinez went 2 for 5 with a walk and a double to rank fourth, and Christian Yelich took the collar against the Braves and ranks fifth.
Cedric Mullins debuted for the Orioles in that Boston game and went three for four with two doubles and a walk. That earned him 12.16 points as passes a large number of pitchers to rank 544th after one day.
