Big Hit

The Beat the Streak Neural Network rated Dee Gordon as the second most likely player to get at least one hit on Wednesday. He went 0 for 4 during regulation, but with the Mariners and Athletics scoreless, the game pushed on into the 12th inning. Given enough at bats, Gordon was likely to get a hit, and the fifth time was the charm. Not only did he reach base safely, he did it in an unusual way for him. His two-run homer produced the only runs in the game.

Gordon became a full-time player in 2014, and since that time, his 11 home runs are tied with Jon Jay for fewest among players with at least 2000 plate appearances. Even Billy Hamilton has more.

The Athletics won’t catch the Astros tonight.
