The same five hitters sit at the top of the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings today. Mike Trout remains in first place, not playing Thursday due to a wrist injury. He’s followed by Matt Carpenter, Jose Ramirez, Alex Bregman, and Christian Yelich.
Charging up the list, however, is Bryce Harper, now 11th. Harper went 2 for 3 with a home run and two walks in the Nationals 10-4 win over the Reds. On the morning of 6/24/2018, Harper was ranked 77th at 498.10 points. Since then he owns a .274/.435/.557 slash line, and has multiple hits in four of his last six games. Trout and Ramirez are consistently good enough to stay in the top five for a long period of time. Others come and go. We’ll see if Harper is the former or the latter as he pushes to the end of the season, a possible playoff berth, and a big contract.
