Best Batter Today

The top five moved around a bit, but the batters remain the same in the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings. Mike Trout missed another game with a wrist injury, but stays on top. It takes a few days before being out of the lineup degrades the score. Shohei Ohtani took up the slack with a four for five night with two home runs. Matt Carpenter hit a lead-off home run and now ranks second, Christian Yelich homered to move into third place, Alex Bregman was hit by a pitch in a great pitchers duel in Los Angeles, and Jose Ramirez singled for fifth place.

Rhys Hoskins is now in sixth place. Fifteen of his last 20 hits have gone for extra-bases, and he’s a big reason for the Phillies push into first place. Rhys has now played 150 games in his career. He owns a .265/.383/.555 slash line with 40 home runs, 35 doubles, 99 runs scored, and 120 RBI. Over half his hits went for extra bases. He’s been building toward the top since he arrived in the majors, and now he has enough games under his belt that he is about to join the elites on this list.
