Winning Mejia

The Padres tie the Rangers in the bottom of the ninth inning, then load the bases to bring up lead-off hitter Francisco Mejia. Mejia came into the game with 43 career PA over two seasons. He walked earlier in the game, but this time he delivered a grand slam to beat the Rangers 7-3. Four of his seven hits since joining the Padres have gone for extra bases, three of them home runs. (Overall in his career, it’s four of eight hits.) He’s only 22, and slugged .471 at AAA this season. Franmil Reyes, another Padres rookie, has 15 homers and 7 doubles and 15 home runs out of his 59 hits. They might turn out to be a very nice power duo in the near future.
