The Cubs visit the Nationals as Kyle Hendricks faces Stephen Strasburg. Hendricks pitched better since the All-Star break, allowing three home runs in 54 1/3 innings after giving up 17 home runs in his first 110 1/3 innings of the season. Strasburg struck out 17 in 16 innings since returning from the disabled list, but he also allowed 17 hits.
This game marks the return of Daniel Murphy to Washington for the first time since the trade.
Atlanta starts a series with another first-place team as they send Anibal Sanchez against the Diamondbacks and Zack Greinke. Sanchez pitched well in his first start against Arizona, holding them to one run in six inning with no walks and six strikeouts. Greinke is quietly having a great season. He’s struck out five times as many as he walked. While he allowed 25 home runs, 19 were solo shots.
