Triple Crown Watch

J.D. Martinez went 1 for 3 with an RBI Tuesday night. Mookie Betts did not play, so Martinez gained a tiny bit of ground in the race for the batting title. Martinez’s probability of winning the batting title is at 0.12. Neither Martinez nor Khris Davis homered, and the probability of Martinez at least tying for the HR title stands at 0.18. Davis did not drive in a run, so Martinez’s probability of at least tying for the RBI title based on simulation is 0.96. His probability of at least tying for both the HR and RBI titles is 0.24. Treating the three as independent, Martinez comes in with a 0.021 probability of winning the Triple Crown. With the home runs and RBI combined, that goes up to 0.028. He’s fading fast.
