Best Batter Today

Jose Altuve reaches base four time in the Astros 7-0 win over the Blue Jays, and pops to the top of the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings. Altuve leads Mike Trout by 0.1 points as Trout goes 1 for 4 with a single against Boston. There was a huge shakeup in the top five, as Matt Carpenter moves into third place after a five for five night with two home runs and a double as the Cardinals demolish the Indians 11-2. Jose Ramirez stays in the top five, but drops to fourth after an 0 for 4 night, and Alex Bregman moves into fifth place as he goes four for five with three doubles and a home run. Only 13 points separate first from tenth.

Altuve and Ramirez are two of the smaller players in the majors. One thing I love about baseball, compared to other spots, is that size matters less. Altuve, on a per weight basis, may turn out to be the greatest hitter ever.
