Games of the Day

The Yankees go for a sweep of the Phillies as Luis Cessa battles Zach Elfin. Cessa makes his first start of the 2018 season after allowing just three hits and three walks in six innings. Elfin allowed a home run every four innings last season. That’s down in one every 12 innings this year.

The Angels send Andrew Heaney against the Red Sox and Rick Porcello. It’s a nice example of how much the team means to a pitcher’s won-lost record. Heaney owns a 3.43 ERA and stands 4-5 on the season. Porcello owns a 3.44 ERA and stands 9-3 on the season. Both average about six innings a start, so staying in games longer doesn’t add to the difference here.

Cleveland at St. Louis features Shane Bieber against Jack Flaherty in a battle of rookies. Bieber walked three and struck out 22 in his first 18 1/3 innings. When batters do put the bat on the ball, however, they collected 22 hits. Flaherty high strikeout rate has helped keep hits down, as the opposition is batting just .201 against him.

Enjoy!
