Weekly Look at Offense

After ten weeks, offense remains down compared to the same period in 2017. (All comparisons are through the first ten full weeks of the season.) The 2018 season produced 8.74 runs per game so far, compared to 9.20 in 2017. Home runs are way down. There were 2.47 hit per game in 2017, compared to 2.27 this year. Walks are even, strikeouts are up, and other hits are down.

The last week produced 8.52 runs per game. If you look at the graph of scoring by week over the last four years, 2018 is looking very much like 2015. Unlike 2015, however, I don’t think a livelier ball will be introduced in the second half.
