Knee Knuckling Under

Steven Wright needs surgery on his knee and will miss the rest of the 2017 season:

The Red Sox announced Thursday that pitcher Steven Wright will undergo a cartilage restoration procedure in his left knee Monday and is expected to miss the rest of the season.

The righthander was placed on the disabled list Monday. Righthander Kyle Kendrick was added to the roster and will start Thursday night against Baltimore in Wright’s place.

So three fifth of a pretty good Red Sox rotation from 2016 saw set-backs in 2017. David Price has yet to pitcher a major league game, Cy Young Award winner Rick Porcello owns a 4.46 ERA, and now Wright won’t be back until 2018.

Pitching remains a crapshoot.
