Padres Hitters Day Off

I suspect Walker Buehler was singing Danke Shoen after pitching six no-hit innings against the Padres Friday night. The bullpen came on to complete the no-hitter in a 4-0 Dodgers win south of the border:

It was the first combined no-hitter in franchise history, and the 23rd no-hitter overall, dating back to June 22, 1891, when Tom Lovett of the Brooklyn Grooms no-hit the New York Giants. Prior to Friday’s no-hitter, the last Dodgers no-hitter came on June 18, 2014, when Clayton Kershaw blanked the Rockies at Dodger Stadium.

That total of 23 is the most for any franchise, five more than the Red Sox and White Sox.

This was the 13th of those no-hitters to come since the team moved to Los Angeles from Brooklyn for the 1958 season, and just the fifth of those 13 to come away from L.A. Most recently, Josh Beckett threw a no-no in Philadelphia on May 25, 2014.

Played at Estadio de Beisbol Monterrey in Mexico, the Dodgers’ no-hitter was the first in Major League history to take place outside the United States or Canada.

The Padres did draw five walks. Buehler threw 93 pitches, walked three and struck out eight. His ERA now stands at 1.13. The Dodgers won three in a row, despite all the major injuries to the team.

As you probably know, the Padres have never thrown a no-hitter, and have the most thrown against them in the division era (1969 on).
