The Game of the Day did not work out as planned. Instead of a tight game between a pitcher inducing poor contact and a pitcher inducing no contact, the Red Sox and Twins combined for 23 runs as Boston wins 17-6. Ervin Santana started for the Twins, and he allowed just two home runs coming into the game. He gave up four long balls in six inning to raise his ERA from 0.66 to 1.72.
Sale struck out ten in six innings, but he was a bit wild today, walking three. Along with four hits, that led to four runs on just an okay day for the Red Sox ace. The high run totals for the starters puts Jason Vargas in firm control of the AL ERA lead.
