The Mets suspended Matt Harvey three games without pay, and without a public reason:
The Mets aren’t saying anything about the reason for the suspension, but sources contend Harvey wasn’t told of Saturday’s ban until Sunday, after arriving at the ballpark. While one source said “this will end up in a grievance” other sources suggest Havery isn’t yet set on that.
Harvey didn’t go to the ballpark Saturday, and apparently that is behind the suspension, though the Mets aren’t saying the reason for the absence or the ban. Harvey sees it as a miscommunication, according to sources, as people close to him say he played golf early Saturday, got a headache when he returned home around 1 p.m., and advised the Mets of this issue.
Harvey did go to the park on Sunday when he was scheduled to pitch, but was advised of the suspension at that time.
The Mets create more of a storm by being opaque in these situation. The suspension likely caused the Mets loss on Sunday:
Blame Harvey for the absurdity and dysfunction that took place in Flushing on Sunday afternoon, when Wilk was called up from Triple-A Las Vegas and made his first major league start in five years on three hours’ sleep.
“That’s a pretty tough situation to put him in, but that’s what we had to do,” Mets manager Terry Collins said.
Wilk gave up six runs, five earned, in 3 2/3 innings. The Mets lost to the Marlins 7-0.
I think it’s time to fire Sandy Alderson. He may have built a good team over the last few years, but the players appear to have little respect for upper management.
