The Orioles and Nationals move their series to Washington as Wade Miley takes on Stephen Strasburg. Miley is avoiding contact this season with 38 strikeouts and 19 walks in 31 2/3 innings. That’s working, thanks in part to the lack of power by his opponents. His slash line against is an unusual .207/.326/.315. Strasburg’s strikeouts are down as he always pitches from the stretch. Still, his 36 K in 40 2/3 innings is good, and his low walk and home run rates are excellent.
The Twims and White Sox battle in the tight AL Central with Phil Hughes facing Derek Holland. Hughes is pitching well enough to win, as his 4.32 ERA is supported by the Twins averaging over five runs a game in Hughes’s starts. Holland owns a 2.02 ERA as he holds batters to a .191 BA, dropping to .139 with runners in scoring position.
Finally, the Tigers take on the Diamondbacks in Arizona with Matt Boyd against Zack Godley. Boyd cut down on his home runs allowed so far this year, helping to lower his ERA for the second year in a row. Opponents went four for 18 against Godley in his first start of the year, but three of those four hits went for extra bases.
Enjoy!
