Offense dominated on Tuesday as four teams hit double digits in runs, and games averaged 10.75 runs per game, the third highest scoring day by average this season (minimum six games played). While a lot of the high-scoring games were blowouts, the Mariners and Phillies entertained with a back-and-forth games that Seattle wins 10-9. The Phillies got out to a 4-0 lead, Seattle came back to take a 5-4 edge, only to see the Phillies immediately answer with five runs to make it 9-5. Seattle worked their way back, however, with Taylor Motter doubling home the winning run in the top of the tenth. It was his 10th double of the season, and 15 of his 19 hits have gone for extra bases.
Not quite as entertaining was the Brewers 11-7 win over the Red Sox. Milwaukee jumped out to a 5-1 lead after one inning, and while Boston fought back, the closest they came to tying the game was 6-4. Eric Thames hit his 13th home runs of the season. He is homering at an excellent rate of one every 8.7 AB.
Despite all the runs, there were two shutouts on Tuesday, including a complete game by A.J. Griffin of the Rangers. It was the best of the day, and despite all the runs, a number of starters turned in excellent performances. It was a good mix of baseball on Tuesday, blowouts, close games lots of runs, and great pitching.
